The City of Douglas is working closely with Cochise County Health & Social Services to monitor recent reports of West Nile Virus activity in the area.
West Nile Virus is spread through the bite of infected mosquitoes. While most people experience mild or no symptoms, the virus can sometimes cause serious illness.
Fever, headache, or body aches
Fatigue or rash
In rare cases: severe headache, neck stiffness, confusion, or neurological symptoms
If you experience severe symptoms, seek medical care immediately.
Use insect repellent (EPA-registered, such as DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus).
Wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors, especially at dawn and dusk.
Remove standing water around your home (flowerpots, birdbaths, buckets, gutters) to reduce mosquito breeding.
Keep doors and windows screened to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.
Increased mosquito monitoring and abatement efforts are underway in affected areas.
Public works teams are treating standing water where mosquitoes breed.
The City will provide updates as new information becomes available.
