Notice Of Possible City Of Douglas Water And Sewer Rate Increase

The City of Douglas is proposing increases to the Douglas Water and Sewer Base and Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) charges and Water Consumption Rates. The proposed rate increase to the Water and Sewer Rates are as follows:  Water Base and CIP charges – (Years 1, 2 and 3) 2.5% increase per year, (Years 4 and 5) 3.5% increase per year; Water Consumption – (Years 1, 2 and 3) 5% per year, (Years 4 and 5) 8.5% per year; Sewer Base Charge (Years 1 – 5) 4% increase per year. Mayor and Council will have for their consideration the approval of the first reading of Ordinance No. 21-1141 at the October 13, 2021, second reading on November 10, 2021 and third reading at the December 8, 2021 Regular City Council Meetings.  If approved in all three meetings, these changes will go into effect January 15, 2022Total increase in the average in-city limit residential bill (5,000 gallons) per month at the end of Year 5, will be an estimated $9.44 per month.  

There will be an opportunity for public comments regarding the proposed changes to the Douglas Water and Sewer rates, at Public Hearing to be held on December 8, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. at  City Hall 425 10th Street.  If you have any questions or comments, please contact Monica Miranda, Finance Manager, at (520) 417-7333.
