The Human Resources Department strives to align its strategic directives with the City’s overall mission.  The department promotes Best Practices and provides quality services to City employees and to the public.

Guided by the City of Douglas Strategic Plan, the Human Resources Department builds on the focus area of:

Employees – The Heartbeat of the City, by coordinating training programs for staff, maintaining classification maintenance reviews to keep salaries competitively directed, researching trends on employee benefits to build upon the fringe benefit package, and working with all departments to amplify the value of every City employee by following our guiding principles of keeping every employee in VIEW - Valued, Innovative, Empowered and Well-Trained.

Professional Delivery of Service, by maintaining the City’s Customer Service Program.  Every employee is charged with delivering excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.  The Customer Comment Card has been developed as an instrument to collect feedback from our customers.  Let us know how we’re doing!

Consistent and Accountable Leadership, by administering the City Personnel Rules and Regulations, completing Administrative Policies, ensuring compliance with various laws such as FMLA, FLSA, ADA, COBRA and many more;  conducting training and directing the Strategic Planning efforts for the organization.

Community Participation and Image, by coordinating employee events and fundraisers for various charity functions and encouraging employee participation in programs with partnering agencies.

Risk Management is also directed by the Human Resources Department.  If you have a claim against the City you may file a Notice of Claim form.  City supervisors may also obtain Incident Report forms from the Human Resources Department.
