Operations Division
The Operations Division is the Uniform Patrol
element of the Douglas Police Department. This is the largest
division in the Department and is responsible for providing the
"basic police services" that everyone envisions when they think of
the police.
The number of officers assigned to each shift is
based upon Demand for Service and the availability of personnel.
The responsibilities of the Operations Division
include:

Preventive Patrol activities: those
activities directed toward prevention of crimes and accidents,
maintenance of public order and the discovery of hazards and
delinquency causing situations.

Crime Prevention activities.

Responding to requests for service from the public.

Detecting and arresting criminal offenders.

Enforcing city ordinances and state laws.

Directing and controlling traffic.

Regulating liquor permits for premises and other businesses as
required by city ordinance or state law.

Maintaining public order.

Providing emergency services.

Developing positive, mutually supportive relationships between
citizens and the Douglas Police Department.

Reporting information concerning criminal activity or other
items of interest to the department.

Conducting preliminary investigations of all criminal offences
reported to the department.

Conducting initial interviews with victims, suspects, and
witnesses.

Recovering stolen property.

Preparing cases for court presentation.

All other duties deemed necessary for successful completion of
the Department's mission.
