Dr. Michael Gomez
was born and raised in the Douglas area. He graduated from Douglas
High School and went on to college at St. Louis University Under
Graduate School. After three years in the Arts and Science
Pre-Dental Program he applied and was accepted into the school of
dentistry at the same school.
Dr. Gomez was
selected by Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company to travel
with them to help the victims of the earthquake in Guatemala where
30,000 people lost their lives. He was elected and served three
successive terms to the Douglas Unified School District. Ford
Foundation selected him to attend a seminar on how to be an
effective school board member in Washington D.C. He was appointed
to serve on the Appellate Court Nomination Committee by the
Governor.
After he retired,
Dr. Gomez was elected to the City of Douglas Council in March 2004.
In November 2004 he was selected by NALEO, one of fifty-six
nation-wide, to attend a seminar in Washington D.C. sponsored by
several corporations on how to be an effective councilman.
