City of Douglas Sends Letters on POE Staffing to Congress
4/28/19
Customs and Border Protection announced the reassignment of 750 officers from our ports of entry to support the activities of the Border Patrol in locations beyond the border.
It is estimated that the Douglas port of entry lost more than two dozen officers, creating additional delays for the flow of goods and people at the border.
In a letter to Congress, Mayor Uribe emphasized, "During the announcement by Commissioner McAleenan, he himself stressed that the reassignment of personnel would mean longer wait times at ports of entry. We are very afraid of the consequences to our local economy and the impacts to all of Arizona and the nation from these decisions."
